~ About the
Photographer ~
I have had the wonderful
opportunity of living and working in Yellowstone National Park since the summer
of 2000. While photography has always been a favorite hobby of mine, it
wasn't until I came out West that the subject matter really began to grab my
attention. For the past several years, I have held the dream job of a
photographer / interpretive guide out of the Old Faithful area, working for Xanterra Parks and Resorts. This job has really pushed me to learn more
and more about digital photography and every day is a learning experience.

One of my
favorite aspects about living in the park year round is being able to
anticipate and look forward to seasonal changes nature brings to
Yellowstone. Yellowstone is a moving picture, where we as
photographers, are able to capture that singular wondrous moment in time
and preserve it forever. I feel it is so important to gain
as much knowledge as we can about a particular subject or landscape in
order to fully appreciate its beauty and place in this world.

When I
am out shooting in the field, I always practice strong
conservative ethics when photographing wildlife. After
all, this is their land. It is important to
learn how to 'read' the wildlife and recognize certain behavior
that is telling us we are intruding that animal's space.
Anytime our actions cause an animal to change its behavior, we
have overstepped our boundaries.
